classic survival horror conservative, Ive restarted encounters if I wasted too much ammo or took too much damage, though the game is pretty fair when it comes down to giving you enough of everything to go round. I don’t remember what difficulty I finished the original on, but I did finish 2 on hard, which was a bit trial and error.Ĭlick to shrink. My only "issue" with hard, that wasnt even an issue was me being super conservative with ammo. The hard difficulty is actually perfect and extremely manageable. I’m currently on Ch 10 and idk why i thought there were 15 chapters, so I’m kinda upset that I am almost finished, as I didn’t even get to use any alt fire for my encounters. I enjoyed it even more because I haven’t played the original since 2008 so it was nice looking at everything and saying “oooh yeah, I remember that”. I can’t wait to experience it again with a fresh set of eyes, because I always remember preferring DS1 over 2 due to the action dialed up a few notches. Sucks that I can get the DS2 DLC on PC though. I’ll definitely dive into DS3 when I have the time and experience it myself after I do another run in DS2. The entire thing with the cult is very reminiscent of what we are seeing in todays politics. It’s not nearly as bad as to what Capcom did from RE5 onwards. Since I didn’t play 3 yet, I spoiled myself the story and I gotta say that I actually quite like the story beats. I don’t remember what difficulty I finished the original on, but I did finish 2 on hard, which was a bit trial and error. Its a game that doesnt have too much story to drag down replays, and the gameplay/combat is just soooooooooooo good.Ĭlick to shrink.I prefer the remake too. Though Id still preferred a little less money and a little more ammo.ĭefinitely will be doing a NG+ mode, as well as cleaning up a couple more trophies etc. I appreciated the new script, some tightening up of plot points (or making them clearer for idiots like me lol), letting Isaac speak just makes sense, the weapons and upgrade system are vastly improved, the combat in general feels better with how much more you can throw at enemies, it looks and sounds amazing, and I did quite appreciate how "just right" hard mode feels in terms of difficulty. Definitely one of the top remakes, and yeah I definitely am left wanting more Dead Space. hopefully now the game is out people stop with the "1:1" remake stuff, this has had way more changes made to it compared to other remakes Ive played in the past. I dont really mind that they added more stuff to the game. Likewise while I liked the additional area(s) in the final chapter, I kinda wish those were added in lieu of the quarantine rooms as having both, again, felt a tad like padding.īut I feel like those are tiny complaints. Like, in chapter 10 you need to take out a number of tentacles (which I dont remember doing in the original, having just played it), and honestly it just sorta dragged it out. I felt like they didnt need to pad out some sections quite as much as they did. There's little changes here and there that I really appreciated - stuff like zero g movement/sections actually being good this time round (such a big improvement), the "turret" sections not being shorter, and a bit more fun (not the best bits by any means, just better) and even tiny things like just not needing to manually move "that thing" in the final chapter (its a dramatic improvement). Excellent game in its own right, and as I replayed the original right before starting this one, I think its an excellent remake in its own right.
